Our principles
BioStore seeks to provide Identity Management Solutions that:
- Streamline administration saving our customers time and money
- Give our customers choice of applications, choice of suppliers and choice of identification method
We fully endorse the principle set out in the new government’s Coalition Agreement that permission from parents should be sought before enrolling students in a biometric system.
Our Identity Management solutions make use of a range of identification methods. When a school chooses biometrics as its preferred method of identification we require our Partners to:
- Advise strongly that the school engage in a full consultation process with students, their parents or guardians, staff and governors before implementing a biometric system
- Always offer an alternative identification mechanism such as cards or PIN for those wishing to opt out of using biometrics
In addition, BioStore is introducing functionality where parental permission must be recorded before it is possible to enrol a student with biometrics.
We wish to make it clear that BioStore does not store fingerprint images. Instead, a partial set of coordinates is translated into a string of numbers and encrypted. BioStore uses state of the art encryption technology. Each database is uniquely encrypted on a school-by-school basis which means data is secure and cannot be moved or shared by any other organisation. The data held cannot be used to recreate a fingerprint image, nor can it be used in a forensic investigation.
